For many of us, singing can be a profound pathway to awareness and healing. Songs help us focus our thoughts, and can serve as a form of mindfulness meditation.

These songs are repetitive, like mantras. They came to me during a stressful period in my life. My living situation was very uncertain, and I was worried and frightened. Singing simple songs helped direct my attention and keep me in the present moment.

After a while, the songs began to stick in my head. Sometimes, my last thought at night and my first thought in the morning would be a song. This form of mindfulness helped fill my consciousness, leaving less room for worry and fear.

Several months after I recorded these songs, my long-time partner was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and went downhill very quickly. It was a devastating time. He passed away seven weeks after receiving his diagnosis. I used these songs like a life raft, clinging to their positive messages. They gave me moments of respite and calm when I really needed it. I thought they might work for others, too, so here they are!
